HELLO!

The Dream in Colour exhibition is nearly upon us; posters and prints are lined up for press, finishing touches are being given to each piece and the gallery is preparing for our takeover.

More details and final poster to come later but I can say our private view night will be held on the 11th of January 2012 from 6pm at the Aubin Gallery in Shoreditch. It will then be open to the public from the 12th of Jan to the 2nd of Feb.

Try and make it down to see exclusive works from the likes of myself, Rob O'Connor, Aaron Munday, Mark Higgenbottam, Jamie Gibson, Mikkel Lundsager Hansen, Michele Rossi and Viv Dykes.

FAH CHAK - AMORE ARMOR

A very overdue post but still important all the same..

One of my very best friends Fah Chak graduated this year with an MA in Menswear at the RCA, creating (unsurprisingly) a beautifully ornate and covetable collection. Based on a broken love story between a knight and a princess, the Amore Armor collection oozes with romanticism and regality, juxtaposing softness with intricate laser-cut details and finished off with the Midas touch.

She has since scooped up an ITS#10 award, winning the opportunity to work for Maison Martin Margiela in Paris later this year, and has earned bucket loads of press on the way.

We had some fun together doing the shoot for the finalists catalogue a few months back, where we had to add a subliminal heart into the photograph.. see if you can spot the hearts (there's 2)!

She never ceases to amaze me with her mad skills (and ridiculously perfect haircut), and yet she remains one of the best pals a girl could have.

Me and the boyf will be hitting Thailand and HK this September and she's going to be our personal tour guide since Bangkok is where she calls home. Very exciting times!

Wowee it's been over a year since I last posted on here!

I have been busy working away at Stylorouge and completely lost my blogging momentum but going to try and jump back on the band wagon as from now since my website has been updated recently as well!

MACMILLAN CANCER SUPPORT

Today is a more serious post - myself and my family will be taking part in the Macmillan Cancer Support 10k Fun Run this coming June in a bid to raise money for the charity. I have had firsthand experience of what cancer can do to a family as most of my friends know, and this charity in particular supported us throughout the whole ordeal as best as they could.

Another food related post!! *shame* I have decided to start growing my own herbs as I spend a lot of moola on these tasty leaves and am sooo happy because they've started growing so quick!! It was also a lovely sunny day so my sister and I decided to do some frolicking outside with our yummy Italian lunch!

WHOOPIE!!!

I have been spending a lot more time baking and eating these home-baked goods than I should and this still hasn't stopped! Yesterday we had a go at American WHOOPIE PIES, a mix between a cake, a biscuit and a cookie with marshmallow cream in the middle.

Trying to do this in a kitchen about the size of my foot (not very big) was no mean feat, and there are quite a few processes in the recipe. Nonetheless, we came out with these:

Strawberry ripple Whoopies with desiccated coconut

and strawberry marshmallow cream

Not perfect and all shapes and sizes but still yummy

Lemon Whoopies with lemon marshmallow cream and lemon icing

The recipe I followed claimed that these were the new baking 'thing' but my verdict is I still love proper cakes more! They reminded me of scones, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, and were heavier than expected.

I promise I will blog more about DESIGN in the future and stop showing you pictures of my futile baking projects...! xx

BERLIN BEARS AND BEAUTIFUL WALLS

A short trip to Berlin earlier this year brought me and the boyf freezing cold weather, delicious currywurst and beautiful art!

Below we have some colourful walls courtesy of The Berlin Wall's East Side Gallery, and millions of characteristic bears at a u-bahn station I have totally forgotten the name of...

These walls went on for miles...

So many bears in a wonderful array of colours and patterns...

Would definitely recommend you guys to visit this lovely city although maybe not in March when snow falls down by the bucketload and you get attacked by itchy chilblains.. or as me and Mr.Hoang says, 'attackkkk of the killer tomatoeeeeeessssss.....!' (My toes do go rather red and tomato shaped when I get attacked by chilblains)

So so so, since my last proper post time and time ago (October!!) I have become GLASS MAGAZINE'S online web designer and re-designed the site back in December.

It's an online magazine that covers high end style, architecture, art and millions of other cultural goodness and we update it EVERYDAY so follow us to keep up with the latest things you need to know about! HELLO!

Sorry (again, argh I'm useless) about my extreme lack of posts. It has been pretty hectic since I finished my degree and I have been very distracted by a general desire to laze around and watch Professional Masterchef non-stop.. ahem.. SO some very exciting news. I have jumped aboard a new online/print project called GLASS MAGAZINE as one of fashion director Marie-Louise Von Haselberg's many assistants, which has been awfully exciting.

GLASS is a real gem of a fashion, art, music and design outlet, and celebrates truly inspirational creativity with dexterity. The online version has a lot of negative space and clean lines in its aesthetic, which is always a winner in my books ;) Please take a look at the site as the creators are all working really hard to bring you amazing new stuff, photographed and written about beautifully. I am only but a small part of this at the moment as I have only just joined recently, but really looking forward to get stuck in more often.

This Wednesday I assisted Marie in a live shoot for both the online and printed version, which involved a lot of writhing around in Lace and lots of tea and biscuits. Here are a couple of snaps..

Apologies for the inexcusable delay and absence of any posts at all - I was FINALLY finished with my degree a couple of weeks back and have been swept off my feet! The hard work was worth it though... I was awarded a First Class Honours for such efforts! (queue chuffed grin) YAY!

PRINTING MADNESS - MAGAZINE PREVIEW

ROCK, PAPER, SCISSORS IS NEARLY FINISHED - HURRAAH HOOOO!

There are still little fiddly bits like headers, proof-reading, page numbers, and probably lots of other annoying mistakes (kerning has become my biggest enemy) but I am about to bestow upon you a very exciting sneak preview...

*ORDERING DETAILS*

I am printing the first batch next week but this will be primarily for my uni project, family, friends & contributors. After this the magazine will be available to everyone and anyone! They will be printed to order so if anyone wants a copy - go on, you know you want it - you may have to wait a few weeks for orders to build up. A proper preview will be up soon and all these details will be cleared up in the next few weeks after the storm! Also, due to the project being entirely funded and created by myself (what a gruelling project! You better appreciate each and every page, stroke it a lot and stick the magazine in a frame afterwards!) this one-of-a-kind publication will not be your bog-standard £3.99 - it will be a LOT more expensive due to a short print run, very nice textured paper and the fact it is being hand-bound, but it's definitely an investment - just thought I'd warn you fellow poor ones first! BUT BUY IT ANYWAY, PLEASEEE! THERE'S A FREE BUTTONS POSTER!! Anyway, keep your eye on the blog should you desire the first ever copy of ROCK PAPER SCISSORS.

Hair traumas

As I have been writing and layout-ing (?!) like a mad woman, I haven't really done too much to post images about. However, when I went to meet Juliana again on Wednesday regarding her new knitwear book (DEFINITELY GOT SOME PHOTOGRAPHY IN THERE - SCORE!) I got to relax just a little whilst waiting for her in the V & A. The sun was shining, the John Madejski gardens were calling, and I sat in peace for a little while with my feet in the pool.

Ahhh - isn't this nice, though slightly wonky - great photographer Jo!

THEN as I closed my eyes and tried to catch some shut eye, some 'cute little kid' only blimmin' steps on top of the openings of that dribbly fountain thing, promptly aiming it (though unintentionally I'd like to think) at me, my spread out phone, camera and prototype magazine. I actually thought the heavens had open and grabbed all my stuff, dropped my phone (as if it wasn't broken enough) and ran to safety with three very smug looking Korean girls laughing at me. Turns out, a girl can't catch a break - FACT. I then had to meet Juliana in all my soaked glory and looking pretty sheepish.

Moral of the story - don't trust kids in water. x

Wet hair is not a good look - at least the lippie stayed on.

HOT OFF THE PRESS!

I met up with knitwear designer/design lecturer/award-winner/everything else you could be good at in fashion JULIANA SISSONS a couple of weeks back, who I wanted to feature in Rock, Paper, Scissors. In a lovely networking manner she also asked me to photograph a few other garments within her latest collection, 'HAUNTING' for her own use and for a new knitwear book she is working on.

They needed to be quite simple but I added a little twist with the red curtained backdrop and some army-esque styling. Big thanks to the Legions Club in Chislehurst for letting me use their function room at the VERY last minute.

So, little old Ravensbourne college organised Industry Day this Tuesday in the hope to introduce new design graduates to different industry professionals. Props go to Calum, Laura and co for organising what mess the college left them in - not a lot of people turned up unfortunately but they made the space look great! I snuck in at the last moment hence my lack of name poster and mental blu-tacking/velco-sticking (thanks Ben, Laura and Chloeee!) but happy I got to get my work up for more people to see!

I suffer a mild identity crisis when it comes to the way I dress and right now I am going through a bit of a rock 'n' roll studded leather shiny black phase - a bit slow but secretly in my head I think I am 5"8' and can get away with shiny black leggings and cut-off-sleeve oversized rockstar t-shirts. In fact, I am rather small and have yet to find such assortments to suit my little body without looking like a 16 year old emo.

I met the lovely Stephanie Moran, design-extraordinaire for empowered women no less, a couple of days ago and I think I have found the solution to such problem - a Jojo sized studded/embellished trench bodysuit? YES PLEASE! Black feathers perched upon my little shoulders? YES PLEASE! Don't think I'd look as good as Jade 'le effortlessly cool' though.. damn!

Hey hey hey!

TODAY I went to the Hayward gallery (amazing fun work by Yayoi Kusama, very me!), ate FENG-sushi, sat in some groggy underground internet cafe with my anxious friends waiting for their degree results (WELL DONE!) went to see Simon Foxton's amazing styling at the Photographer's gallery, ate some Cinnabon cinnamon 'stix,' enjoyed a cheese board without the wine in Covent Garden, and got mistaken for being Japanese on my way home... again.

Considering today was meant to be a day off from work I did quite well! Yet an annoying feeling comes when I start feeling guilty about not doing ANYTHING Rock, Paper, Scissors related so I decided to finish editing my jewellery shoot photos! A while back I showed the sets I was working on for this shoot et voila - here they are as the finished product!

Alien Resurrection

I thought the film title was rather fitting for this post since my friends and I watched the film a couple of nights ago, getting rather spooked out by the humanoid alien thing that dies by getting sucked out into space - NICE! I have been informed that this is one of the poorer films of the series (not a big Alien fan) but nevertheless, we still watched it O_O

ANYWAY, this shoot I did last week was based on knitting again (doh! Promise there's only one more knitting shoot!) but the more futuristic/dark side of it. Waxed cords and latex galore, I managed to find some pretty exciting stuff for it. Working title was Robots vs. Aliens (probably because I was so loved up with Monsters inc and Monsters vs. Aliens) but it IS based on this idea. Bit darker and more polished than my usual shit but still fun - note metallic vegetables in the set :)

Lazy post alert! I am in the midst of interviews, editing and shoot arrangements (next big one on Tuesday based on futuristic knitwear, keep your eyes peeled!) so haven't finished that much content this week.

All the while I have been constantly tweaking my seemingly longgggg magazine and decided to show you guys what it's looking like at the moment.

This is only but a few of about 140 pages and I am constantly finishing shoots etc etc so come back sooon! I am looking to print the final magazine early August so do keep your eyes out around that time as I will be publishing it online as well for you all to criticise :) xx

IT'S HOT. Time for Mehmet Ali's ice-cream shades

It is like sooooo hot right now but don't want to complain too much otherwise it's blatantly going to piss cats and dogs immediately :s

Getting more to the point, my fabulous friend Mehmet Ali (you may recall he won the GFW Menswear award this year, woop woop!) asked me to shoot his collection, which, might I add, are in the BEST colours for this weather. The palette reminds me of yummy Haagen Daz strawberry ice-cream which is sadly not available anymore in the UK [sad face] and the entire collection is perfect for the travelling gent who owns a yacht, drinks champagne on said yacht and smokes cigars like they're good for him - phwoar!

I am proper incoherent today (heatwaveee!) so let's just get to it, here are some preview pictures ya ya ya!

Farm animals jump on it

Sorry for the delay in posts recently - been bogged down with so many shoots/writing/interviews that its all becoming a little silly so I had to take a couple of days out in the sun. (Alright for some I hear you snear!)

Anyway, one of my amAzing knitting friends from Ravensbourne, Hannah Taylor a la massive loonie boys jumpers, asked me to photograph her final collection for her this week. I still cannot stop laughing at them and I think they capture the true essence of the humorous and heart-warming (in the truest sense of the word) 6 piece collection and it was a real pleasure shooting them!

SO SO SO I did a shoot last week with ol' Calum Harvey for his BA collection lookbook with lovely Gui again, and here are some sneaky pics from them!

I don't normally do dark moody stuff so it was refreshing to photograph this shoot and am quite frankly 'chuffed' with the results. Gui looks amazing as does Calum's award-winning (yay!) clothes and we had a lot of fun listening to Basement Jaxx whilst dancing around in said clothes inbetween takes.

Wooden books

So, a while ago I started researching into the world of book arts and book-binding as a feature for the magazine. I was much intrigued by the idea of beautifully made books and how such a traditional craft is being modernised through the use of new materials and new techniques.

I photographed a few books at the London College of Communication as it has one of the best courses available for budding book binders, and I couldn't help but show a couple of my favourites here.

So so so, the exhibition *Pentakaidecagon the fashion collective of 15 that I am one of, has come and gone. But fear not - I am pretty sure all of us will return at some point in the near future with our new work and more pretty things for you all to see at a space just as cool!

Knitwear is sexy

I kid you not. In the wake of Mark Fast and his lacy knitted goodness, knitwear has become increasingly conscious of the female form and although I love massive knitted jumpers just the same, I was intrigued by sexy purl one and knit ones.

Thus, this unnamed shoot (Geez I need to get myself organised) was shot to deliver this message: KNIT IS SEXXXY with a triple X, and tact, of course.

It involved a lot of glue and tweezers but was well worth the sticky fingers. It's a little set I bought from Hong Kong a while back and I have two more to make for a jewellery shoot I will be doing for the mag. Yay for mini doll house framey things xx

She's SO Melodramatic

One of my first main fashion stories for the magazine - She's So Melodramatic.

This shoot took weeks to prepare for but it was all worth it as it was pretty exciting to shoot! It's based on theatrical and OTT knitwear, and the endless possibilities of the craft - the bigger the better, the more colourful the better.

My lovely helpers Marietta and Chloe helped me with the paper chains and paper swans (uh-oh teaser, I am going to make you wait for the swans shot!) and I had some incredible knitwear for the shoot. The shoot also involved a lot of helium, a pink swing, an incredible amount of paper chains and lots of hair swooshing. Hope you like what you see xx

VIVA LES BUTTONS!

Right at the beginning of this project I had wanted to do a feature on buttons and how they need to be back in the trimmings spotlight. Little did I know I would become addicted to the little gems, the most expensive ones as well, and now I have spent a fortune on buttons. ARGH!

But I think you'll agree they are pretty amazing (trying to justify my expenses here, just agree). I took the photos in the sun which explains how bright and shiny they look. Yum! The feature on buttons will cover 3 double page spreads and there is going to be a free pull-out poster of ALL the buttons. Exciting much!

Here are two snippets of my favourite buttons - if you look closely you can see the rainbow button has a fat upside-down cat shadow!

Backwards Post - Small girls in Big jumpers

I am rather slow on the blog front so I am catching up from allllll the work I have done in the recent past. I am working on a new high fashion craft magazine which is going to be covering exciting things on knit, crochet, book-binding, trimmings etc etc but in the coolest most accessible way possible! It's a monthly and going to be on par with a magazine like Dazed and Confused in terms of content and audience.

One of the first shoots I did was called 'Small Girls in Big Jumpers.' Here are a few snaps... enjoy!
